How to make money from your passion?

Quite a lot of people will tell you, you have to find a secure job, build a stable carer and maybe later start some company aside, when time is right. I have a different opinion.

 
As WarrenBuffett masterfully puts it: “There comes a time when you ought to start doing what you want. Take a job that you love. You will jump out of bed in the morning. I think you are out of your mind if you keep taking jobs that you don't like because you think it will look good on your resume. Isn't that a little like saving up sex for your old age?”

So how can you earn a living by your passion?

A great book on how to make money from your passion is Gary Vaynerchuk´s Crush It. In this book he advices to basically put your creations online, build up your brand over time, gather followers, subscribers and eventually you will get recognized.

Anyone has time to do this. You are most likely to work 8 hours a day in a job, sleep 8 hours and then you have free 8 hours to do anything you like. Use your free time to improve, build, master, network and publish your passion. This is how you become valuable.

You might post funny pictures from Red Bulls cans on your blog. If you grow your blog and gain followers, one day people in Red Bull might recognize you and hire you for a marketing campaign.


Gary Vaynerchuk advices, you should learn, which medium suits you best. Is it writing? Is it video? Is it music? Start a blog or a podcast, a YouTube channel. Possibilities are endless now.

You have to keep it authentic. If you are fake, people will lose their interest in you. Some people might not appreciate your style, but there are many, who would appreciate you as you are. If you will try to pretend, you are something else, it will shiw itself in one way or another as fakery.

You have the same amount of time, as anybody else. It is up to you, how you decide to spend it. If you want to watch TV-shows and not focus on your growth instead, well you made the decision. If you want to grow and follow through, you have to put the effort in. Then you have to be patient and dedicated.

It will take some time to gain followers, but if you press on and keep on improving, your time to shine will come. As I sum it up in oter post, in order to become a master it takes 10 000 hours. However, if you want to become suffitient from the start, it takes only 20 hours of intence practice according to a book by Josh Kaufman.

Once you do something, you are passionate about, you will build up your skills and eventually you might become a master.
